Welcome to the Rockett Group Home Page

Welcome to the Rockett group home page.  Our philosophy is to be a team researching basic science concepts in support of practical technologies of benefit to society globally.  The approach is to combine experiments with theory and to focus on a combination of growth of materials and state-of-the-art characterization.  We make extensive use of the Center for Microanalysis of Materials at the Frederick Seitz Materials Research Laboratory at the University of Illinois.  In the past our work has covered topics from density-functional-theory studies of atomic dynamics on semiconductor surfaces to microelectromechanical systems.  Our current projects center primarily on photovoltaics (commonly called solar cells), radiation detectors, and various projects in support of industrial groups.  The research group consists of a mixture of graduate students and undergraduates but typically the group has included post-doctoral researchers and international visitors.  It has even included a high school student at one point.  Please feel free to explore our site and find out more about what we do.
